Russian scientists first cloned a calf

Scientists of the Federal Research Center for Animal Husbandry - VIZH named after academician L.K. Ernst and Moscow State University bred the first cloned calf in Russia. About this writes the "Rossiyskaya Gazeta".

Cloning animals, scientists still edit genes in vitro, thereby improving the productive abilities of the animal, resistance to disease. So scientists have already edited the gene to get allergy-free milk from a cloned cow.

The obtained results create a fundamental basis and demonstrate the technological readiness of Russian scientists to successfully create using genomic editing lines of farm animals with new improved properties, which is one of the target indicators of the program for the development of genetic technologies in the Russian Federation.

This work was supported by the Russian Foundation for Basic Research. The development of genetic technologies, including genomic editing for use in agriculture (including animal husbandry), is one of the areas of implementation of the Program for the Development of Genetic Technologies in the Russian Federation for 2019-2027, the Foundation said.
