Such decisions were made by the subcommittee on customs-tariff and non-tariff regulation, protective measures in foreign trade of the legal commission on economic development and integration, TASS reports. Both items will be submitted to a meeting of the Eurasian Economic Commission.

The head of the National Meat Association Sergey Yushin supported the transition to a flat duty, calling it a necessary measure to stimulate the production of cattle. According to him, it is important to increase the level of protection of the Russian market, as tariff quotas have become ineffective. Any participants in foreign economic activity will be able to import beef, which will ensure stability and reduce the gap between the wholesale cost of domestically produced cattle meat and import prices.

The limit on the import of chilled and frozen beef into the country has been in effect since 2003. The authorities have canceled the pork import quota since January 2020.
