Russia banned the transit of cattle and fowls from Ukraine

Since September 4, the Russia Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision (VPSS) Rosselkhoznadzor has banned the transit of cattle and fowls from Ukraine through Russia.

This is stated in the materials of the department of September 2.

The VPSS reported that the ban is being introduced in order to reduce the risks of spreading African Swine Fever disease, highly pathogenic bird influenza, sponge-like encephalopathy of cattle during the transportation of live animals and products transiting through Russia.

"Given the lack of response of the Ukrainian side to the repeated requests of the Rosselkhoznadzor for measures taken to prevent the spread of influenza of birds, ASF and bluetongue, as well as in connection with violations at the border during the transit of live animals, from September 4, 2020 temporary restrictions on transit through the territory of the Russian Federation from Ukraine are introduced," the document says.

New restrictions apply to the transit of cattle and small cattle, hogs, fowls and livestock products.

It bears reminding that in January-July 2020, Ukraine exported 12.27 thousand Mt of live cattle valued at $22.56 million.
