Meat in Azerbaijan rose in price by about 20% last year

According to the information provided by the State Customs Committee, the total cost of imported meat amounted to 148 million manats.

The question arises: why did the significant volume of imports and the low cost of imported meat not affect prices on the local market?

Expert economist Khalid Kerimli stated that Azerbaijan's self-sufficiency in beef is 91-92%, and in small cattle meat 97-98%. However, meat has risen in price by about 20% last year. Imports also play a significant role in preventing further increases in meat prices. Duties and other costs also affect the increase in the cost of meat, the expert said.

According to the economist, part of the imported meat comes from India. Livestock from Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan have also been imported recently.
