The EAEU to provide tariff incentives for the import of cattle meat for industrial processing in 2024

Tariff relief will be provided for cattle meat intended exclusively for industrial processing and production of finished products. The Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission has decided to provide tariff benefits in the form of exemption from payment of import customs duties in respect of certain types of cattle meat intended to produce meat products, the BELTA reported.

We are talking about the possibility of importing these products in 2024 in the following volumes: for the Republic of Armenia – up to 8,500 tons, for the Republic of Belarus – up to 7,500 tons, for the Republic of Kazakhstan – up to 5,000 tons, for the Kyrgyz Republic – up to 3,500 tons, and for the Russian Federation – up to 100,000 tons, the EEC clarified.

The measure of customs and tariff regulation is aimed at filling the shortage of meat raw materials in the domestic market of the Eurasian Economic Union, developing the production of finished meat and sausage products by processing enterprises, reducing the cost of such products, as well as curbing price increases for finished products.

Tariff benefits will be provided in respect of cattle meat intended exclusively for industrial processing and production of finished products, subject to confirmation by the authorized body of the intended purpose of the imported goods. Such raw meat does not apply to high-quality beef, which is mainly produced on the domestic market. The shortage of meat raw materials in the EAEU is compensated mainly by imports from Latin America and India.

The decision of the Council of the Commission on this issue provides for appropriate restrictions on the final use of cattle meat, as well as finished products produced using it.
