Armenian authorities again warned that meat should be sold only from slaughterhouses

According to Sputnik.am, the Armenian authorities will continue to ensure that only meat from slaughterhouses is sold at retail. This was announced at a press conference by the head of the state service on food safety of the republic, Georgy Avetisyan.

Avetisyan recalled that 38 slaughterhouses are already working in the republic, and 25 slaughterhouses have been under construction. Two of them are planned to be made mobile in order to fulfill the orders of farmers, moving from one village to another.

There are five slaughterhouses in Yerevan, the country capital, six ones are in Aragatsotna, twenty-one – in Kotayka, nine – in Armavir, five – in Gegharkunik, seven – in Lori, two – in Shirak, three – in Syunik, four – in Tavush, and one is in Vayots Dzor.

As Avetisian noted, additional capacities are needed in several regions, for instance, in Shirak, where livestock production is highly developed. Therefore, the construction of additional slaughterhouses has been launched there.

He warned that if veterinary inspectors notice a violation of the requirements on the meat sales without veterinary documents from the slaughterhouses for the first time, the store receives a warning. For repeated violation, the store is charged a fine of 150 thousand drams, for each subsequent violation the amount of the fine may be up to 500 thousand drams (about a thousand dollars).

It is worth reminding that at the request of the Armenian authorities from July 1, 2020, meat should be sold only from slaughterhouses.
