Residents of Kazakhstan now eat less meat

According to the results of the first quarter of this year, the consumption of meat and meat products decreased to 19.8 kg on average per capita, minus 5.4% compared to the same period last year, kazlenta.kz reports with reference to energyprom.kz.

Most of all meat and meat products were consumed by residents of Pavlodar region: 24 kg, plus 1.9%; Least of all - residents of Shymkent: 14.6 kg, plus 1.7% per year.

This year, the consumption of meat products decreased in comparison with the indicators of the previous year in 10 regions out of 17. The most noticeable indicator decreased in Almaty and the North Kazakhstan region: by 12.5%, to 20.3 kg and 17.3 kg, respectively. In the Akmola region, the consumption of meat products decreased by 11.7%, to 21.3 kg, in the capital - by 11.5%, to 17.5 kg. At the same time, meat consumption in the Kostanay region has noticeably increased - by 10%, to 20.5 kg per capita.

In 2020, each Kazakhstani consumed on average 7 kg of meat and meat products per month - 5.6% more than in 2019, 14.3% more than in 2015, and immediately 58.4% more than in 2010. The average consumption of meat products per month has grown over the past 20 years from 3.7 to 7 kg.

Average consumption of meat products differs depending on the size of households. In households consisting of 1 person, this year they consumed on average 36.4 kg of meat products per capita per quarter, out of 2 people - 28.3 kg, out of 3 people - 21.8 kg, out of 4 people - 18, 3 kg, out of 5 or more persons - only 15.4 kg per person.

Note: this year consumption has decreased in comparison with the previous year for almost all main types of meat products. The exception was meat semi-finished products (plus 31.8% at once, up to 29 g), as well as sausages and wieners (plus 7.5%, up to 503 g).

Consumption of lard (by 17.7%, to 116 g), chickens (by 11%, to 1.1 kg), boiled sausages (by 9.3%, to 674 g) has noticeably decreased.

Among the varieties of red meat, the consumption of beef decreased by 1.9%, to 6 kg, lamb - by 3.9%, to 1.1 kg, horse meat - by 5.4%, to 1.8 kg, pork - by 5. 9%, up to 824

In the first quarter of 2021, the share of expenditures on consumption of meat and meat products amounted to 17.9% of all consumer expenditures of households.

At the end of May 2021, prices for meat and meat products increased by 6.8% per year and by 0.9% per month.

Lamb on the shelves of stores, markets and other retail outlets on average in Kazakhstan cost 2.2 thousand tenge per kg - 13.6% more than a year earlier. Horse meat increased in price by 7.2%, to 2.4 thousand tenge, pork - by 6.5%, to 1.7 thousand tenge, beef - by 6.4%, to 2.1 thousand tenge, chickens - by 4.1%, to 965 tenge per kg.

Among other meat products, semi-smoked sausage rose in price by 8.7%, to 2.4 thousand tenge per kg, boiled sausage - by 6.8%, to 2.1 thousand tenge.
