Farmers in Kyrgyzstan demand to lift the ban on meat exports and threaten rallies
It is reported by REGNUM news agency with reference to "Kaktus.media." Farmers in the Chui region of Kyrgyzstan demanded the leadership of the Kyrgyzstan Ministry of Agriculture to lift the recently introduced ban on the export of certain types of agricultural products.
Farmers emphasized that if the government does not agree to their demands, then they will begin to rally. Farmers expressed the view that the introduction of such measures could lead to a crisis in the country's agricultural sector and urged the country's government to consult with them before making such decisions.
Earlier, the Minister of Agriculture of Kyrgyzstan Tilek Toktogaziev at a meeting with entrepreneurs said that the Government of Kyrgyzstan did not introduce a ban on meat exports. Export restrictions affected only the cattle mother stock.
"These measures are necessary in order to avoid the crisis of animals’ reproduction and the subsequent long-term restoration of livestock to the level of previous years," the head of the Ministry of Agriculture added. Toktogaziev has also recalled that Kyrgyzstan is laying out a program for the development of the breeding cattle segment, particularly, the Ministry of Agriculture is working on the opening of a second processing plant in Osh in order to launch programs on artificial insemination of animals across the country.
