January – November 2021:

November beef muscle cut exports totaled 98,343 mt, up 7,005 mt from last November and up 17,469 mt from 2019.  November beef muscle cut exports reached the fourth highest volume and set a record high for value at $936 million.  Beef muscle cut exports were higher in November to Korea (+4,700 mt), Japan (+2,400 mt), China/HK (+2,300 mt), Canada (+1,200 mt), South America (+1,100 mt), Central America (+700 mt), Caribbean + DR (+650 mt), EU27 + UK (+540), and Taiwan (+160 mt).  Exports were lower to Mexico (-5,400 mt), ASEAN (-1,350 mt), and the Middle East (-70 mt).  Exports to Korea (23,010 mt, +26%) and Japan (22,109 mt, +12%) were the highest since August.  Combined exports to China/HK totaled 19,054 mt, the lowest since June.  Exports to China (16,406 mt, +108%) were up from 16,406 mt in October but were down from July – Sep (record was 19,924 mt in August).  Exports to Hong Kong (2,648 mt, -70%) slowed to the lowest level since 2010.  Exports to Mexico (9,091 mt, -37%) were the highest since March but were off last November’s strong volumes (and were down 6% from Nov 2019).  Exports to Canada (7,814 mt, +20%) were the highest since August.  Exports to Taiwan (5,401 mt, +3%) were also the highest since August, rebounding from October’s total of 4,924 mt.  Exports maintained momentum to Latin America.  November exports were record large to Colombia (867 mt, +193%) and Peru (315 mt, +392%), and exports to Chile (776 mt, +58%) continued to rebound from last year.  In Central America, exports were record large to Guatemala (1,026 mt, +21%) and Honduras (260 mt, +152%), and exports were higher to the Dominican Republic (665 mt, +102%), Costa Rica (440 mt, +105%), and Panama (338 mt, +121%).  Exports to Indonesia (668 mt, +0%) were the lowest since February but were steady year-over-year, while exports were lower than last year to the Philippines (639 mt, -13%) and Vietnam (399 mt, -71%), although exports to Vietnam were the highest since June..

November beef variety meat exports totaled 25,298 mt, up 1,299 mt from last November but down 2,490 mt from November 2019.  Compared to last November, beef muscle cut exports were higher to Japan (+1,300 mt), Mexico (+650 mt), China/HK (+410 mt), Caribbean + DR (+330 mt), South America (+240 mt), and Central America (+10 mt), while exports were lower to Middle East (-760 mt), Korea (-340 mt), ASEAN (-300 mt), Africa (-140 mt), and Canada (-50 mt).  Beef variety meat exports to Mexico (9,048 mt, +8%) were the highest since December 2020, and exports were also higher to Japan (5,430 mt, +31%).  Exports to Egypt (4,894 mt, -13%) were the highest since May, but they were down 13% from last year and down 14% from November 2019.  Combined exports to China/HK totaled 1,801 mt, up 29% from last year and the highest since March.  Exports to China (994 mt, +111%) were the highest since July, and exports to Hong Kong (807 mt, -13%) were the highest since March.  Beef variety meat exports to Jamaica (514 mt, +219%) were the highest since April 2019.  Exports to Peru (511 mt, +26%) slowed to the lowest level since February, and exports to Indonesia (452 mt, -35%) slowed to the lowest level since October 2020.  Beef variety meat exports to South Africa (362 mt, -54%) were the lowest since April 2019, while exports to Gabon (377 mt, +140%) were the highest since March 2020.

January – November beef and variety meat exports totaled 1.318 million mt, up 16% or +184,000 mt from last year (With value up 39% or +$2.7 billion to $9.6 billion).  Exports were larger in volume than last year to China/HK (+108,500 mt), Korea (+30,500 mt), Japan, (+16,400 mt), Mexico (+16,000), South America (+7,200 mt), Central America (+7,100 mt), ASEAN (+5,400 mt), Caribbean + DR (+5,100 mt), and the Middle East (+3,000 mt), and exports were slightly higher to EU27 + UK and the Surrounding Russia Region.  Exports were lower to Taiwan (-2,100 mt), Canada (-5,600 mt), and Africa (-7,800 mt).      

November beef exports accounted for 12.9% of production and 15.2% when adding variety meats, as compared to 12.6% and 14.8% in November 2020.  January – November 2021 beef exports accounted for 12.8% of production and 15.0% when adding variety meats, compared to 11.1% and 13.3% for January – November 2020. 

November beef export value per head of fed slaughter averaged $480.67/headup 42% or +$142.26/head from $338.41/head in November 2020.  January – November 2021 beef export value per head of fed slaughter averaged $402.09/head, up 35% or +$104.08/head from $298/head for January – November 2020.
