Prices on meat in Kazakhstan continue to rise
According to the results of this year July, meat products in Kazakhstan rose by 2.1% over a month and by 8.6% over a year, reports KAZAKHSTAN TODAY. Among the regions of the country, the most price hike was felt in Mangistau region and Shymkent – at once right on to 14%. A significant increase in prices was also recorded in Turkestan (by 12.7%) and Akmola (by 10.2%) regions, writes Energyprom.kz.
Lamb prices were up 16% per year, to 2.3 thousand tenge per kilogram. Prices on horse meat rose by 9.4%, to 2.5 thousand tenge, on pork – by 8%, to 1.8 thousand tenge, on beef – by 7.7%, to 2.2 thousand tenge, on poultry – by 7.6%, to 999 tenge. Mortadella sausage increased in price by 6.3% over the year, to 2.1 thousand tenge per kg, semi-smoked sausage – by 9.2%, to 2.5 thousand tenge.
According to statistics, in January-July 2021, 193.2 thousand Mt of meat products were produced in the country – 4.3% up y-o-y. In the regional context, most meat products were produced in the Almaty region: 53.5 thousand Mt, – 2.7% over the year. The second and third lines were taken by Akmola region (47.1 thousand Mt, +42.7%) and East Kazakhstan (25 thousand tons, -4.3%) regions, "analysts said.
It is noted that according to the results of the first half of this year, local companies were able to provide demand (sales on the domestic market plus exports) for meat products by 87.8%, compared to 85.8% a year earlier. Imports respectively accounted for 12.2%. Importers brought 76.6 thousand Mt of meat products to the country – 10.2% less than in the first half of 2020. 609.7 thousand Mt of meat products were sold on the domestic market – 3.2% more against last year.
In value terms for January-June 2021, meat products imports were at $102.5 million. Exports from the USA to the country were 12.1% less than a year earlier. 51% of all products in kind were imported from the CIS countries: 39.1 thousand Mt in the amount of $69.8 million. Russia (17.3 thousand Mt), Belarus (13.3 thousand Mt) and Ukraine (8.5 thousand Mt) are leading in imports to Kazakhstan. The remaining 49% of meat imports are from countries outside the CIS: 37.6 thousand Mt valued at $ 32.6 million. Here, the USA were the main country–importer with 34.4 thousand Mt of products.
