Duty-free import of 100 thousand tons of beef for 2023 was allowed to Russia

"The Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission has decided to provide tariff benefits for beef imported for the production of meat products in 2023," the EEC said in a statement. The quota for duty-free imports of beef to Russia has been halved.

The quota for duty-free imports of beef to Russia has been halved

It is specified that the benefits relate to supplies in volumes up to 10 thousand tons to Armenia, up to 7.5 thousand tons to Belarus, up to 5 thousand tons to Kazakhstan, up to 2.5 thousand tons to Kyrgyzstan, and up to 100 thousand tons to Russia. It is reported that the reduction of the quota for duty-free imports of beef to Russia should provide producers of canned meat and sausages with raw materials.

Also, the measure is designed to stabilize the cost of these products for buyers. It is noted that the possibility of duty-free import was introduced last year. Then, 200,000 tons of beef and 100,000 tons of pork were allowed to be imported into the Russian Federation at a zero rate (the usual rates are 15 percent and 25 percent, respectively). Thus, the quota for beef imports was halved.

The Ministry of Agriculture proposed to extend the quotas for duty-free import of beef in September 2022.
