Is it possible to catch coronavirus by eating?

There is currently no evidence that COVID-19 coronavirus is transmitted through food, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) said.

Coronavirus

This assumption is based on the experience of previous outbreaks of coronaviruses, such as SARS-CoV (Severe Acute Respiratory Coronavirus Syndrome) and MERS-CoV (Middle Eastern Coronavirus Respiratory Syndrome).

According to Marta Hugas, a researcher at the agency, food is not a "probable source or transmission of the virus."

The European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) reports that the new coronavirus is transmitted from person to person mainly by airborne droplets: by sneezing, coughing or simply exhaling.

Earlier, coronavirus was not spread through food, Ilya Vlasenko, director of external relations of the Association of Retail Companies (ACORT), reported.
